"Surprise Visit" Thacker Avenue Elementary, Kissimmee, FL

Teaching playground safety and manners to kids!
Teaching playground safety and manners to kids!

In December of 2009, the children of Thacker Avenue Elementary School in Kissimmee, Florida were treated to a surprise visit from Slyde the Playground Hound. Thacker Elementary, managed by the Osceola County School District, hosted Career Day and playground safety played a big role throughout the day as Dale Vicos, A.K.A. Slyde the Playground Hound and storyteller Dave Antonacci, both of Play Space Services, Inc.; brought Slyde the Playground Hound "live" to the 1st through 3rd grade classrooms. Slyde taught the children playground safety awareness and the kids learned Slyde's safety messages so well that they were deputized by Slyde as playground safety "watch dogs."
"The children were very attentive and captivated by Slyde's playground safety messages," said Antonacci. "After each performance, Slyde deputized the children and then showed off with a dance we affectionately call the Slyde Glide. They loved it."
Playground Hound, LLC and The Playground Magazine recognize Mark Cavinee, Risk Manager, Osceola County Public Schools for his efforts throughout his career to make playground safety a top priority. A big thank you to Play Space Services for doing their part in educating the children, thus closing the loop with this very important public service. Play Space Services is a vendor for the Osceola County Public Schools with a long history of bringing fun to the children of Thacker Avenue and many of the more than 23 other elementary schools throughout the district. Play Space appreciates the district for their business and their support of making playground time safe for the students of Osceola County Schools.
