Ashton - The Ashton Food Pantry and Ashton firefighters collected food during the annual Halloween Trunk-or-Treat event on Main Street. The theme of the food drive was "Treat the Trunk."
According to Klara Varga Bainbridge, Director of the Food Pantry, at least 300 food items were collected.
"I'll be calling people to help get it on the shelves and ready for distribution," said Klara. Two local businesses, The dentistry offices of Toenjes, Kunz, and Brizzee - Ashton and St. Anthony, and Ashton's own SLYDE® the Playground Hound matched the value of the food collected up to a $100 contribution each. The cash will enable the food pantry to purchase non-food items for families in need.
Thanks to the firefighters and everyone who helped at the food drive and especially to those who donated," said Klara.
